Realm versus temporary session
A Together Realm is a persistent campaign world, not a host's temporary session. Once the creator shares it and a friend accepts, that member can return and continue even when the creator is offline. The world remembers what happened.
Official Together messaging describes free private Realms and “a shared world that remembers.” The consequence is literal: quests, bosses, doors, town projects, vendors, resources, and other world state can change for every member after one person's session.
Ownership and administration
The creator establishes and shares the Realm. Administrative permission controls settings such as the current difficulty. A normal member may not see the same controls, so ask an administrator before assuming an option is missing.
Sharing is an invitation to the persistent world, not a one-night party invite. Only add players the group trusts with progress and resources.
Characters and Realm state
A character can enter a Realm whose world progression is ahead or behind that character's personal equipment and level. The Realm does not automatically replay completed quests for every newly joined character. A late member can therefore miss context or arrive underprepared.
For a group that wants the full story together, create a fresh Realm and agree that main quests and bosses wait for everyone. For a farming or build-testing Realm, asynchronous play may be the point. Name the Realm accordingly.
Recommended progress policies
Story-sync Realm
- Main quests, bosses, and first-time areas require the full group.
- Solo play is limited to crafting, inventory, and agreed resource routes.
- Major cutscenes wait for all members.
Open persistent Realm
- Members may progress whenever they are online.
- The Realm Diary is checked at login.
- Rare materials, town projects, and quest items follow a written policy.
Testing Realm
- Used for build experiments, alternate difficulty, and farming.
- No expectation that story remains synchronized.
- Valuable shared items are transferred deliberately.
Realm safety habits
- Read the Realm name and current character shown during loading.
- Check the Diary and chat before moving a quest.
- Announce difficulty changes.
- Do not delete duplicate or restored Realms until every member identifies the correct state.
- Avoid manual save-file edits for normal join problems.
- Keep important crafting decisions in group chat, not only voice.
Hotfix 9 specifically addressed Realm and character rollback cases. If duplicate restored entries appear after an affected account case, follow the official Hotfix 9 instructions and verify the desired state before deleting anything.
When to create another Realm
Create a separate Realm when a new player wants the story from the beginning, the group needs different progression rules, a Hardcore experiment should not endanger the main world, or difficulty/build testing would disrupt the campaign.
Use How to Play Co-op for creation and sharing, Realm Difficulty for the current paths, and Loot & Trading for shared-resource etiquette.
