The three current paths
The current Realm creation flow offers Torn, Chosen, and Unspoken difficulty.
- Torn is the accessible path for players new to animation-driven combat or groups that want more room to learn.
- Chosen is the default intended balance.
- Unspoken increases the challenge for established builds and currently provides an offsetting loot benefit.
Difficulty can affect enemy health, damage, poise pressure, group composition, and rewards. Exact multipliers are patch-sensitive; use the current live description rather than a copied percentage table.
How to change it
A Realm administrator can open Settings, go to the gameplay/difficulty area, and select a different path. Current player confirmations show the change can be made during an existing playthrough; a fresh Realm is not required.
If the option is missing, check administrator permission. A normal member may not see the same control. Ask the creator or an administrator before troubleshooting the installation.
Change difficulty for the right reason
Lower it when the group cannot learn the relevant attack because every mistake ends the attempt, a late-joining character is badly behind the Realm, or the session's purpose is story progress. Raise it when ordinary enemies no longer demand the build's defensive and resource tools, not merely because one optimized player can delete them.
Tell everyone before switching. A player loading later should not discover the change through an unexpected one-shot.
Difficulty versus world progression
Difficulty setting and Realm story progression are different. Returning to Torn does not replay completed quests or reset world state for a new character. A Realm that has advanced bosses and areas can still be a poor onboarding space even at lower difficulty.
For a new member who wants the full campaign, a fresh shared Realm may be better. Read Realms before treating the difficulty toggle as a universal catch-up system.
Test builds consistently
When comparing weapons or enchantments, keep difficulty, target, party size, and buffs constant. A damage number from Unspoken cannot be compared directly with a Chosen test if enemy defenses or encounter behavior changed.
Record the difficulty in any build claim. Our Build guides focus on repeatable combat behavior rather than unqualified maximum numbers for this reason.
Hardcore is a separate decision
Hardcore character/Realm consequences are not simply “Unspoken but harder.” Current references describe a death-related access boundary. Read the live warning completely before creating that character or Realm; do not select it for a casual challenge test.
For setup, use How to Play Co-op. For a build that remains stable as difficulty rises, start with Builds and verify survival, stamina, and crowd-control layers before chasing more damage.
