Patch 1 changed the question
The current bow question is not “how far away can I stand?” Together Patch 1 gives bows full damage inside an intended range, gradual damage loss beyond it, and visible projectile gravity near the end of the shot. A successful build holds a safe working range, not maximum screen distance.
Build 22928553 contains 12 localized bow records. Rather than repeat a roster that will become stale after the next content patch, the weapon database is the maintained source for every current bow name and identifying icon. Filter that database to Bow, choose candidates there, then return here to evaluate how each one behaves inside a complete build.
Choose the base by behavior
Test three things before attributes or upgrades:
- Normal shot cadence: can you release and reposition before the target closes?
- Charged-shot timing: is the payoff usable in real boss openings, not only on stationary targets?
- Running and evasive attacks: do they preserve a distance you can continue shooting from?
Named bows can have appealing runes or scaling, but the base still has to fit. Balak Talon and Twined Recurve Bow are current community favorites for different reasons, yet that is an editorial starting point—not proof that either is best for your roll or attribute lane.
Attributes and equipment
Fund the requirement shown on the exact bow. Many bow plans lean Dexterity; some named bows use hybrid requirements. Add Stamina until a normal shooting sequence still leaves an evasive action. Add Health for unavoidable learning errors, Equip Load for the full bow/quiver/armor/secondary loadout, and Focus when it creates a planned rune use.
A quiver is a functional off-hand, not flavor text. Compare its benefit with its weight and the complete loadout. If the bow is a secondary weapon, verify the primary weapon, bow, quiver, and armor together in Equip Load.
Rune plan after Patch 1
Patch 1 reduced Multishot damage, raised Skyfall Shot's Focus cost to 100, expanded Arrowstorm's area and damage radius, and raised the running-attack stamina costs of Siren's Call and Pale Ash because of their invulnerability frames. It also fixed Ilaria's stamina-based runes so they can be slotted into bows; Hotfix 8 improved their animations.
Do not equip four expensive answers to the same problem. Use one reliable single-target spend, one group or control option, and leave room for the normal-shot loop to fund them. The Rune database confirms current names; the live menu confirms compatibility and cost.
Range practice
Pick a repeatable landmark or enemy and shoot from three distances. The middle distance where the trajectory stays predictable and damage remains stable is the working range. Move laterally there rather than retreating until the arrow visibly drops and falloff begins.
Against fast enemies, shoot once and relocate. Against slow targets, charged shots can be efficient if the full draw fits the opening. In co-op, use another player's aggro as a cleaner angle—not as permission to fire through hazards or leave the team far outside support range.
Build checkpoints
- Normal shots can kill ordinary targets without consuming every stamina point.
- The player knows where falloff starts by feel, not guesswork.
- The selected rune has a defined target and safe cast window.
- A melee or mobility answer exists when an enemy reaches close range.
- The build remains functional without a perfect facet or ring.
